UNDER-16 HURLING LEAGUE FINAL 2004

KILCORMAC/KILLOUGHEY 5-13 FERBANE/BELMONT 0-2

The Under-16 hurlers from Ferbane/Belmont were well beaten by an excellent Kilcormac/Killoughey team in the 2004 league final. The game was played in superb conditions in the St. Rynaghs' club, Banagher on Sunday, May 16th.

Kilcormac/Killoughey raced to a 2-9 to nothing lead before Danny Cooney registered Ferbane/Belmont's forst score of the match in the 28th minute. Kilcormac added another point before the break leaving the score 2-10 to 0-1 at half-time.

Any chance of a fightback by Ferbane/Belmont were killed off quickly after the re-start when Kilcormac/Killoughey scores two more goals in the first five minutes. Ferbane/Belmont got their second and final score on 39 minutes with a Mark Egan free. Kilcormac/Killoughey then finished the game in style with another goal and three more points to add to their tally.

Kilcormac/Killoughey deserved to win with their determination, teamwork and the quality of their hurling. To their credit, Ferbane/Belmont fought on to the final whistle but in the end were well beaten by a strong and skillful hurling side.
